How to rip DVD to subtitle file?

The following tutorial will show you how to rip DVD to subtitle file in SUB+IDX, PDF, JPG, or other picture formats. Download and install Xilisoft DVD Subtitle Ripper on your computer, and follow the steps below to start extracting subtitle file from DVD

Step 1: Download and Install Xilisoft DVD Subtitle Ripper

Download Xilisoft DVD Subtitle Ripper here and install the application on your computer.

Step 2: Start Xilisoft DVD Subtitle Ripper and Load DVD

Run DVD Subtitle Ripper, and insert a DVD disc you want to rip. Click "Open DVD" button on the toolbar or click "File > Open DVD..." on the menu bar to open the DVD disc you insert.

All the titles and chapters of the DVD will be displayed in the file list. If you want to extract subtitle file from VOB or SUB+IDX files, click "Add Files" button on the toolbar or click "File > Add Files..." to load VOB or SUB+IDX files.

Tip 1: Click "Get Disc Info" button on the toolbar or click "Edit > Get Disc Info" on the menu bar, then the software will retrieve loaded DVD information from online database, and display the information in the file list, such as title name and chapter name.

Tip 2: You can preview the DVD movies and take snapshot before ripping. Choose the title or chapter you want to preview, click "Play" button in the preview window to play it. When it comes to the image you like, you can click "Snapshot" button to save the image in the snapshot folder.

Step 3: Choose output format and set output parameters

If you want to change the default output format, then select the title or chapter in the file list, and choose the format you want from "Output Format" drop-down list. Click "Browse" button to choose the output folder to save the output subttile file, and enter a file name in the "File Name" textbox on the right panel.

Tip: If you choose to output subtitle as PDF or picture and want to adjust the font size, then click "Font Settings" button at the right of the output format list and adjust the "Font Size" in the "Font Settings" dialog that appears.

Step 4: Set output settings

After choosing the output format, you can set the "Subtitle Language", "Frame Rate" and "Split" parameters according to your will.

Open "Subtitle Language" drop-down list, and choose the subtitle you want to extract. If you want to make custom subtitle file with multiple subtitles, choose "Customize..." from the drop-down list, then the "Subtitle Settings" dialog appears. Check the subtitles you want to extract in the list, and click "OK" to complete the subtitle language setting. Checking "Create a multi-language comparison file" checkbox enables you to output multiple subtitles in one file for comparison.

Step 5: Start extracting subtitle

After everything is OK, check the titles and chapters you want to rip and click "Start Ripping" button below the file list to start extracting subtitle file from these checked titles or chapters.

When the ripping completed, click "Open" button at the right of the "Browse" button to open the output folder for viewing output subtitle files conveniently.
